Shutterfly is offering 50 FREE Christmas cards to bloggers!! Thanks Sarah, for the tip! Just head over to their site to check it out here

We had my family over today for the Ellis family Thanksgiving and my brother has a great Nikon SLR camera (which by the way, my dad hinted in getting one for himself and me!!! Let me know if you see any awesome Cyber Monday deals) that he took our family Christmas photos with. I'm hoping that I can find a card that has a couple of photo boxes because there are too many cute ones to choose from! I do wish that Shutterfly offered more cards with Scripture and focusing the real meaning behind Christmas.

I'm so excited that I saw and picked up The Little Drummer Boy at the library recently. I'm starting to see a little more of the silver lining in Logan being so completely obsessed with drums lately. The little drummer boy knows that no gift is great enough for a king... Jesus, and he gives all that he has (playing his precious drum) and does his best! As we've been talking about how the drum can become an idol for Logan, this story presents a great transition into teaching Logan how those who love the Lord can do all things as if doing them for Him. OK, so I love, love, love books! I love cuddling up with my sweet little boy who doesn't always want to cuddle anymore and diving into a new experience, then relating it to our lives and learning from it.

I've used Shutterfly's photo cards before... for Logan's baby announcement. Their calendars are awesome too!

Be on the lookout for our family's super cute Christmas card soon! I can't believe how quickly Christmas is approaching!Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-42734675811468107952009-07-22T11:43:00.000-07:002009-07-22T12:11:17.704-07:00Playgroup Birthday PartyYesterday Logan started out his birthday celebration week with party number one of three! We escaped the forecast of bad weather, and made it to the pool for Logan's birthday party with our playgroup. It even ended up being a beautiful day! Logan had so much fun playing with his friends in the pool, opening presents, and his favorite part...eating cupcakes! We are so thankful for our friends!

We've been asking Logan how old he'll be on his birthday for a few weeks now, and he always responds, "Two (holding up 2 fingers)! I'm one now!" Sometimes he says, "I'll be two on my birfday (SO cute)!" A couple of days ago we started thinking that Logan might have trouble adjusting in a short time period to the idea of actually being two years old. So we told him that he's two a little early! He's pretty excited! He goes around the house saying, "Happy birfday Logan! Happy birfday Mommy/Daddy! Happy birfday to MEEEE!"

We're so excited about the Lord allowing us to continue watching our little "big" boy grow even more!

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-38423709171489137862009-07-17T11:41:00.000-07:002009-07-17T12:15:45.978-07:00A Little Bit of Life...Nothing extremely exciting has been happening here lately, but I just wanted to post a few of the fun everyday moments. We're still talking up and looking forward (bittersweetly) to Logan's birthday next week. I am more and more thankful everyday that the Lord blessed me by allowing me to care for, love, and enjoy this sweet little life!

We've been hanging around the house a lot...Logan was sick this week. And even though we have a million and a half toys, Logan seems to be finding creative uses for other things (when he's not playing trains)! Check out the pics of him and his boxes. We can play "Where is Logan (or anything else)?" for hours it seems! It's just getting harder for me to come up with new places for him to say, "Noooooo" to!

We had a moo-mentous dinner with our friends, the Stambaughs last week! We all dressed up as cows, went to Chick-fil-A, and got free meals. I think Radez and I told every pregnant cow joke there is on the way there! We had a blast meeting the big cow, and hanging out with friends.

We also had a party for our homegroup at Jordan Lake last weekend. Logan got to ride a real boat for the first time! He was pretty quiet once we sped up, and the wind was a little more forceful. He usually seems to take in new experiences like that...just observing everything going on around him. He said he liked riding the boat though, and was pretty excited he got to go!

Just to explain the pics of Logan with his car and the things in aluminum foil... He helped me wrap corn on the cob (or "cob on corn" as he calls it) for Radez to put on the grill, then decided he needed to take it for a ride! He was pretty cute trying to pack it all in the car with him!

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-80545627137662103872009-07-09T11:41:00.000-07:002009-07-09T18:24:38.121-07:00Baby Radez Has a Name!I thought I had lost the pics of our ultrasound where we found out the sex of the baby, but I found them...Yay! I think we have officially decided on a first name for him... Tate! We haven't decided on his middle name, but are very excited to be able to call him by his name now. I'm 24 weeks along, and feeling great! Tate is quite a little kicker most of the time, so we'll see if he's going to be an active baby once he gets here too! Just from looking at his ultrasound pics, I think that Tate is going to look a lot like Logan... and that means like his Daddy too!

We had a great time celebrating the 4th of July with old friends in Greenville this past weekend! We got to hang out at the Johnston's house for a while, and then go to a cookout with lots of Crossroads friends. It was such a sweet time to catch up with people we love! After dark, a couple of the guys actually set off firecrackers in the backyard! I really thought Logan would be terrified of them, but he did really well. He watched with Daddy for a little while, and then hung out with Mommy on the deck. I asked him if he liked them or if he was scared, and he said, "I'm scared." He never cried though.

I've been trying lately to do more activities with just Logan instead of over scheduling activities with other people. We love getting together with others, but I've been realizing recently how important it is for us to love being at home too... even if that just means inviting others to our house instead of going somewhere else. One fun thing we did this week was to make a surprise for Daddy! We made him some banana bread...his favorite! Logan did a great job helping with this more involved recipe. He stayed involved through the entire process, and it was even a good lesson in sharing when I had to take over to complete a step. Logan is really into doing things "by myself". He started saying he wanted to do things "self" several months ago which was exciting, but it's becoming a finer line between being excited about his independence and choosing which things he really shouldn't do by himself yet.

Some of our good friends from church welcomed their second baby, Sophie, into the world last night! Logan had his first sleepover (without a friend's parents here) with his friend Natalie. They had a blast playing at the pool and at home together! They both (Logan more than Natalie) wanted whatever the other was playing with though. That's where the pics of them each holding their Elmos, the same sippy cups, and snacks come in to play. By the end of Natalie's stay though, they were learning how to play with the same toys together! Logan has recently had a difficult time sharing his toys with others (especially at home) so I am thankful for this opportunity to focus on that, and it always helps when Radez gets to see what kinds of issues Logan is having that usually occur without him around. We also had a playgroup at our house this week which forced him to share with lots of friends at once.

When we dropped Natalie off at her house, we got to sneak a peak at Sophie! I explained to Logan that she was the baby that was in Ms. Alana's tummy and she came out last night, and we can see her now. He looked at me and very emphatically said, "Baby brother come out Mommy's tummy now and see me!" I thought it was the sweetest thing ever!

We are surprised at lots of the things Logan is coming up with to say now. A few days ago, I was rocking him for a couple of minutes before nap time as usual, which sometimes if he's exhausted he may fall asleep during, and with his face turned away from me he started yelling, "No get me, no get me!" over and over. I turned him towards me to find his eyes were still open, so I asked him what he was talking about. He said there was a tiger in his room! His imagination is certainly growing! He constantly finds different uses for things other than the ones they were intended for. It is really fun to see him becoming so creative! Another cute thing Logan says now is, "I'll be 2 on my birthday!" He holds up two fingers at the same time for everyone to see!

One last thing... Logan passed out from a breath holding spell for the first time since last September a couple of weeks ago. We were at a birthday party at the park, and he fell down but didn't really get hurt, just scared. It the first time Radez has experienced this firsthand, and it definitely made a lasting impression on him. As awful as these things are, I am thankful that the Lord uses them to teach us so much. I became very fearful of what could happen if I didn't have time to get to Logan while caring for an infant (head injuries, etc). I was once again reminded that God's perfect love drives out fear. He loves Logan more than I ever could (which is hard to imagine), and his eyes are on him even when mine are not. It is easy to try to control all things with Logan, but please pray that I would continue to trust God because his plan for Logan's life is better than mine could ever be.

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-57190629651526650622009-05-25T17:46:00.000-07:002009-06-26T19:31:57.083-07:00Catching up...WARNING: Really looong post! It's been too long. Don't feel pressured to read all of this, but I like to write it out for myself anyway!

To catch up with the biggest news I haven't blogged about yet... we're expecting a baby boy! His due date is October 27th. We are so excited about this little blessing from the Lord! I've gotten out of the habit of blogging lately since I've mostly wanted to sleep whenever I have free time. Getting further into the second trimester has helped give me more energy. Hopefully I can catch you up quickly on what's been going on in our lives. I started this entry a while back, and looking over it to actually publish it, a few things have changed!

When we first told Logan the news about the baby, we were surprised to see that he too was excited! He said things like "baby Mommy tummy", and when asked when the baby would be here his answer was "8 months"...for about three months of the pregnancy! Whenever we asked Logan what he thought we were having, he was pretty consistent, he said both little sister and girl...we'll find out soon if he's right!

In April, we took a family trip to Chicago to tag along with Dan as he went to a conference. His sister Molly came along also. She made it possible for Logan and I to go sight seeing. Chicago is not a stroller friendly place! We carried Logan up and down many sets of stairs in the train stations. We had such a full, fun trip! We made it to Navy Pier, the Chicago Children's Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, The Art Institute, Sears Tower, China Town, the Shedd Aquarium, and of course shopping on Michigan Avenue! It only took a day or two for Logan to adjust to the time difference and sleeping in his stroller while we were out and about. His favorites were the Children's Museum and the aquarium, but he hung in there through the guided audio tours we took of the Sears Tower and the Art Institute like a champ!

Otherwise, we've been trying to keep up with our everyday activities while Mommy has not been feeling well. The Lord has been teaching me so much about denying myself through this pregnancy. This life is not about me, it's about Him! I'm sure I'll need to be reminded of that again once the baby arrives!

Some of the things Logan is really into now are:

PLAYING HIS GUITAR (or turning things into drums) - his hit single is "Een Een Washed Out" (with the excited emphasis on "washed out")! Otherwise known as "The Eensy Weensy Spider". He'll play and sing a little, but if Daddy plays, he can do all of the hand motions too! We tell Logan that he "rocks out" on his guitar when he plays. Well, one day he wanted to bring a rock in from outside so I let him. He went over and put it in his guitar, and said, "get rock out please Mommy!"!!! He cracks us up! He loves to sing and dance. He can learn just about anything through music! He's recently learned several scripture verses through songs. Whenever applicable, we can sing them during the day as reminders of what God's word commands us.

DRIVING THE CAR - his biggest obsession! He looooves to sit in the driver's seat, push all of the buttons, and steer the wheel. If I leave my make up in the car, he'll also open up the mirror and put some on! He's too cute to stop! He doesn't like to beep the horn though. He tells me at random times driving down the road not to beep the horn, and I assure him that I won't unless it's necessary! He's warming up to it though.

LOVING HIS ANIMALS - this has been a long time favorite of Logan's, but it's been interesting to watch his "relationship" with his animals change as he develops. He's always fed, hugged, and kissed them, but now he reprimands them for things that he knows are not allowed and then proceeds to discipline them if they disobey. They learned to climb, jump, and do flips right along with him. They even act out some of his favorite stories. Logan's animals have begun to eat with him too. We were having a difficult time at mealtime until the horse starting taking turns eating with Logan. He's actually eaten a few new things that he would not even touch before like salad!

JUMPING - Logan set a goal for himself to learn how to jump, so for most of the month of April it didn't matter where we were or what we were doing we would see Logan trying his hardest to pick his little feet up off of the ground! Then by the end of the mongth, he finally learned to jump one day!!! Now he jumps all over the place saying, "Mommy, Jump high!".

TRUCKS, TRUCKS, AND TRAINS! Logan loves any type of truck and loves looking out for them on the road or listening out for them in the house. We MUST make it to the window to see any truck that drives by! If he's waiting for me to get him out of his room in the morning, he lifts the blinds up to watch. He especially loves dump trucks, tanker trucks, buses, and mail trucks. He recently got some tracks and trains that he loves to play with. He loves to say, "Mommy come play trains me!"

As Logan is starting to speak much more clearly, one of the things he says that we think is adorable is, "Moo Me" or "excuse me". We're holding on to the little fun words and phrases now that remind us he's not quite grown up yet! Ok, so this has changed since I originally started this post...he now even says that correctly. He often says, "Mommy/Daddy look at this!" and "What is that?" His longest sentence (that we counted) so far has been 10 words (2 thoughts put together)!! He's usually talking in 3-6 word sentences.

One last thing that we've been excited about lately is Logan's love of counting! He sometimes breaks out counting in the middle of playing alone even. He counts to 11 very easily, then with a little prompting can count to 20 (but usually skips 13 and 14).

We just had our first weekend away from Logan a couple of weeks ago. We took a trip to Wrightsville Beach while Logan hung out with Uncle Brian and Aunt Wendy. We had a wonderful time and so did he! We had no idea how he would handle us being away, but thankfully he did great! He talked about us, but never got upset that we weren't there while he was at home. We're a little relieved to have that experience out of the way before we go to the hospital with the new baby! We've found that the more we talk about things in advance with him and prepare him for what's going to happen, the better he does.

I'm sure I've put in too many pictures in the slides, but they're way too cute to cut any more out than I already have! Hope you enjoy!

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-53936075393982518822009-02-23T11:28:00.000-08:002009-02-23T13:06:58.686-08:0018 Month Explosion!I've been meaning to post lately, but when I realized that Logan turned 19 months today, I knew I needed to actually get it done! This has been an exciting time in Logan's development! So much has happened with him that I'm not sure where to start...

One thing that has blown me away is that Logan can recognize all of his letters and tell you what sound they make! I've been singing a song of letters, sounds, and a word that starts with that letter to him off and on casually for a while. Well, the last week of January I bought Logan a puzzle of the alphabet. I thought since there were so many pieces it would be too difficult, but left it out for him to play with just to see how he did. Boy was I wrong! Logan could already tell me about a quarter of the sounds, and had no trouble putting the puzzle together! In about a week, he was telling me about half of the sounds, and a month later he recognizes them all, knows all of the sounds, and is starting to recognize some lower case letters too! Who knew he had been listening to my song all along! He loves music and sounds. Letters are beginning to be the new obsession... he loves to point them out everywhere. He's even sounded out words in order, the sounds just don't blend yet.

There is a pretty funny story about his letters. We were blowing bubbles the other day on his alphabet mat, and I could not get him to stop putting the bubble wand on his lips. As we were playing, I asked him what sound P made. When he answered, he unknowingly blew a bubble from the bubble residue on his lips!

Another thing that Logan has significantly progressed in is numbers. Most of you know about his obsession with clocks... I can't tell you how many times my child has asked me to count the numbers on a clock! I think this is what contributes to his number recognition. He recognizes numbers 1-12, but sometimes confuses the 6 and 9. He has also counted more himself. If I say one, he can say 2, 3, 4, 5, I say 6, 7, he can say 8, 9, I say 10, 11, he can say 12. He doesn't do this often, but I've started counting to 20 with him now to challenge him more. He also understands one to one correspondence. He usually moves things one at a time as I count.

Logan also talks in many more short phrases and sentences now. He usually strings together 2, 3 or 4 words. His vocabulary has increased tremendously this month. One day early in the month, I was astonished at how many new words he said, and counted 16 in one day! I don't think I realized how much he talks nonstop at home until I was sick recently and couldn't sleep because I kept hearing his sweet little voice (which has no quiet setting!)

Being a former kindergarten teacher, I am super excited to be able to teach him all of these things!! Logan constantly amazes me doing things I don't expect him to be able to do. It makes it even more fun that he enjoys learning so much! I pray that God would use these things to show Logan Himself. He is the One who created them all. Even though I teach them to Logan, He is the one who allows him to understand. I have to remind myself constantly that none of these things matter without Christ. Proverbs 10:14 says, "Wise men store up knowledge." I hope I can teach Logan to balance that with 1 Corinthians 8:1 that tells us "knowledge puffs up, but love builds up!"

Don't miss the video of Logan rocking out!

Make a Smilebox scrapbook

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-36657110218383949672009-02-03T10:40:00.000-08:002009-02-03T10:51:02.273-08:00Snow PlaySo I'm a little late in posting about our fun snow day. As soon as we could all get bundled up after breakfast, we headed out into the snow to play:) I found a small toddler sized sled at a yard sale last year for $1, and picked it up just in case we ever got a chance to use it (highly doubted it though). Logan absolutely loved it! The snow was so deep, he wouldn't have been able to stand up for very long without freezing. We got about 6-7 inches!! We love our view of the woods and going to look at the creek behind our house, and it was even more beautiful laden with snow. God has been reminding me of His work in creation lately as I teach Logan that He is the creator of all things. I've been asking Logan who made him or whatever we're looking at, and it is the sweetest thing to hear him say, "God" even at such a young age.

Make a Smilebox scrapbook

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-47045390869986103402009-01-20T13:41:00.000-08:002009-01-20T13:55:15.131-08:00Tagged...
Shelley K. tagged me. I've been trying to find time to get back ever since! Radez has been in Boston for five days and boy have we missed him:( Logan and I have had a great time bonding together! We even got to spend the night with Mimi and Papa. I feel like maybe I have a better idea of how what my days would look like if we had more children...crazy!

We had a blast hanging out as a family and with friends this while Radez was home though. We really tried to take advantage of our time... Radez biked his longest distance yet last weekend - 58 miles! Logan turned 17 months old, and has learned his basic colors and shapes. He's really started having more of an interest in colors since he got his table and chairs and easel for Christmas. Although some days he can tell me every color correctly, and others he won't. He learned his shapes several months ago, but colors have been more difficult. I've heard that some children who learn shapes easily have a more difficult time with colors and vice versa. I think that all the variations in colors can be confusing to transfer from the primary colors on crayons and books. Maybe Logan is a more concrete thinker like I am. It's so neat to see his personality unfold. He loves to paint and draw now, and can even draw a circle! I think he really loved moving on to the next step in shape sorters too - the little ball that's red on one side and blue on the other for those of you who have kids:) He also made a major accomplishment of screwing the lids all the way on his toothpaste and a water bottle. He has been screwing the lids back and forth for a long time, but now he screws them on so tightly that he can't get them off! I guess that comes next. Logan can sing the "clean up" song now. He loves to sing, dance, and do motions to songs and rhymes! He also loves to slither around the house and make hissing sounds like a snake! OK, so he only actually slithers backwards, but crawls forwards. One more super cute thing that we've been doing that I don't think I've written about is having "conversations" with Logan where we say something then he says something and so on. Whenever Logan tells us something, it's almost inevitable that it's followed by him nodding his head in agreement with himself! He must tell a lot of jokes, too. He's always cracking himself up! Sometimes we understand what he's saying, sometimes we don't! The same probably goes for him too. I think Logan understands quite a bit, though. He follows directions very well (when he's obeying). But whatever he does or does not know is exactly where God would have him to be right now. My prayer is that God would show me how to most effectively teach Logan as an individual, and that Logan would learn from the way that I teach him so that ultimately I can be an instrument in Logan learning his need for a Savior.

We also got to go to Marbles and Monkey Joe's (inflatable jumping) as a family. Logan eventually warmed up better to jumping with Daddy along. We had a great time catching up with some old friends from college at the Braddy's for a New Year's party. We had a blast playing the infamous "Celebrity Name" game. We also got to meet baby Isaac Mehaffie! Check out the pic of Radez holding him...I think he's starting to get the itch for another one! What do you think? Logan on the other hand camped out by the sweets. Check out his sad puppy dog face after being told he couldn't have any more! Don't feel too sorry for him though. He shoveled in his fair share of chocolate covered pretzels and puppy chow before that! He was very obedient, just looking and not touching... somewhat uncharacteristic of his recent behavior patterns. He's been testing us quite a bit. I've had a difficult time dealing with the fact that we need to discipline him more firmly now that he's getting older and less responsive to what we've been doing. It probably hurts my feelings as much as his to see him be disciplined sometimes. I've even selfishly overlooked a few offenses not wanting to have to follow through in discipline.

Thankfully, God is faithful to give us exactly what we need when we need it. I've been reading Feminine Appeal, and just finished the chapter on discipline. I highly recommend this book, and this chapter has been particularly convicting as well as encouraging at this stage in my life. In Titus 2, women are commanded to love their husbands and children. The type of love Paul is referring to here is the Greek "phileo" which describes the love between very close friends. It is tender, passionate, and affectionate. It enjoys and respects. Carolyn Mahaney argues that women have a much easier time showing love by sacrificing and serving others than passionately enjoying them, hence the need for this specific command. In regards to my struggle with discipline, Proverbs 13:4 says that the avoidance of discipline is an expression of hate, not love. I certainly want to love and not hate my child. I pray that God would give me love and that this love would stand out to him as love that can only come from the Lord.

Make a Smilebox scrapbook

Make a Smilebox scrapbook

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-76759130188020823572008-12-31T09:38:00.000-08:002009-01-03T11:24:10.634-08:00Learning...I know most of my posts usually consist of what my sweet Logan is up to, but God has been teaching me so much lately I thought I would share. I debated on whether or not to start a new blog for my thoughts, but it would just be easier to post here. So, if you came for Logan you can just skip to the bottom!

Where to begin...The thing that jumps out the most at me is what God has been teaching me about friendships. When we first moved to the area, I was super excited to meet anyone and everyone. Well, the newness is wearing off. Being the "new" person after five months doesn't seem so new anymore. I think being away from familiar faces and close friends at Christmas time triggered some homesickness. We just recently decided to jump in and become a member at the church we've been attending, Sovereign Grace. We had a "new member interview" a couple of weeks ago with one of the pastors there. He actually just came over to our house and talked for a couple of hours. Towards the end of our time, he mentioned talking to a couple of other families that had recently been through similar situations as us. Then he said something that really spoke to my heart. He said that God is a kind God. He will preserve the friendships that He intends for us to keep, and let go of the ones he doesn't. In time we will build new friendships here that are strong just like some that we've had for years already. I am extremely thankful for those friendships that have already stood the test of time and I can say confidently that they will forever have a place in my heart. I've also learned a lot about being a friend through this process. I am much more likely to go up to someone I've never met regardless of the circumstances and invite them to be a part of my life, and hopefully become part of theirs. Growing up as a "shy" child and never talking to anyone I didn't know (and sometimes people I did) it's amazing to see how much God has grown me. Even still, I know that I have much much more to learn about loving others as Christ first loved us. I really do desire to be someone who warmly and lovingly opens my home as well as my arms to others. I know some of those people have really made the last few months an easier transition for me. So feel free to call me out on being selfish with my time as is my tendency (I still desire to put God and my family first). That is the other thing God is doing in my life - breaking my pride. Logan is the main tool he is using for that! That's a whole different post!

In light of the whole friendship blurb, I did want to mention one way that God kindly surprised me in a friendship. About a month ago, I was super excited to find an old friend on facebook. A really old friend...my neighbor from the time I was probably two until I was about 13 and my best friend growing up! God took us in different directions through the end of high school and college so we had lost touch. I sent her a message, and didn't get a reply (or so I thought). It turns out that I just didn't receive an email notification of her message. She sent me her phone number, and as soon as I saw it I ran downstairs (quietly so as not to wake up Logan) and called her. It was a very sweet time to catch up on the last few years. Our moms had bumped into each other here and there so we knew a little about what was going on in each other's lives, but it was very heart warming to reconnect with such a good friend. It's fun to look back on almost our whole lives and see the girls who sat on the monkey bars together and fought over who would be the teacher - the "Elizabeth sisters" and talk about our families now and who God has made us today.

And on one more friend note, the slide show at the bottom is from Christmas with some amazing friends who have been there for our family through thick and thin...the Johnstons. OK most of the pics are of Logan and Sadie, but I pray that God would give them special friendships as well.

*Let me know what you think of the smilebox program. I'm thinking of signing up so the pages will appear bigger on the screen.

Make a Smilebox scrapbook

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-1243523825170109682008-12-30T21:14:00.000-08:002008-12-30T21:25:52.116-08:00Merry Merry!I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We enjoyed staying at home for the holidays this year. All of our family came to our house. The Ellis fam was here Christmas day and the Radez fam was here the day after. We had a great time together!

I've been trying to figure out how to spice up our blog a little bit. Radez actually copied a background from a friend's blog that I really liked until I can find another one. I must say I was a little sad when I spent almost an hour trying to read up on how to change the background myself, and then my techy husband came home and did it in about 10 minutes.

I've been mulling around some other ideas for blog postings in my head, and hope to actually write them out soon. Otherwise known as "tock tick". (there have been some days in which Logan must have said this and pointed to clocks 100 times in a day!!)
Balls (or ornaments in the shape of balls)
Lights
Hats (All snowmen wear hats!)
Elmo (or "Melmo")
Eating!
Shoes (trying on anyone's shoes)
Stuffed Animals (Hugging and feeding them especially)
Books (Cuddling up and reading to Logan is one of Mommy's favs!)
Going "Bye bye" (story time, music time, and museums are some of his favorites. Also pretending to go bye bye in his car!)
Talking on the phone
Being tickled! (He even asks for more! This is Daddy's favorite too!)
Making silly faces/making people laugh

Hiding and playing peek-a-boo
Playing with friends and family
Blowing kisses
Making noises (animal, car, train, etc.)
Being chased by or chasing Mommy and Daddy

Babies

Rolling Trucks around

OK, so here's the top 20. I'm sure I could go on and on! The things that made the list were very easy to think of. Logan goes through phases of things that he is VERY interested in. He can point out some of the things mentioned above from a mile away! Sometimes I feel like I am living out a hidden picture puzzle!! Right now his favorite phrase is "want more".

The second slide show is of our playgroup's cookie making party (and by cookie making I mean cookie dough and candy eating!). For those of you who know about my awesome baking skills - let's just say I am very thankful that someone else wanted to organize this event so Logan could experience Christmas baking! We've been very blessed to be able to get together with this group of very sweet kids and moms! We met some of them at the music time we go to, and they welcomed us into their group soon after moving to Apex. Logan is the baby of the group, and it does show in some of the last pics. After the group photo, I looked at the clock only to see that it was way past Logan's lunch time. My poor little guy must have been starving.

We've had a great time explaining the meaning behind Christmas to Logan this year too! He absolutely loves his Christmas story book. It helps that it has a clock on the first page! We do actually get past the first page most of the time, and it does a great job illustrating the story of the birth of Jesus.

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-71792630013961006462008-11-15T09:12:00.001-08:002008-11-18T19:01:17.627-08:00"Cheese Please"Logan has been talking in phrases here and there for a while now, but he is saying more and more lately. A couple of nights ago he was so cute sitting in his high chair saying "cheese please" over and over again! The more we laughed at him, the more he said it! A couple of weeks ago I started noticing him babble for a bit and then say "you Daddy" or "you Mommy". I thought I had heard him say "I love you" in some of those, but last week he clearly said "I love you Daddy!". One morning this week he woke up and from his crib started calling out, "I want you Mama!". Of course I ran right to him and gave him a hug! It seems that everyday for about a week now I've been able to distinguish at least one sentence out of his babbling.

Logan has been practicing stacking blocks lately. He usually stacks three and then tries for a fourth, but knocks it down instead. Today Logan stacked five small wooden blocks on top of each other!

Tonight when I was giving Logan his passy before bed I asked him what color it was, and he said "orrge" or orange! I couldn't believe it! I had no idea he was starting to understand the colors I keep talking about!

Some of the pictures in the slide show are of one of Logan's favorite things to do for the last several weeks. Stand, sit, stand, sit, stand, and then of course..sit! Not only does he do this in his cute little chair, but he also does it on a shoebox, Daddy's guitar case, the stairs, or anything else he can find. Another thing I realized recently that he's been doing for months now is that anytime I hang up the phone with someone, Logan echoes my "bye". So if you've called in the last two and a half months, Logan has probably told you "bye" too! One other thing that has been very sweet to watch is Logan's love for books and reading. He routinely asks to be read books after breakfast and before bedtime, but also all through the day he loves to either "read" on his own or be read to.

Logan is growing so quickly, I thank God daily for every second I get to spend with him. Hopefully I can track some of the precious things he does on this blog.

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-39672020646456155352008-11-03T12:14:00.000-08:002008-11-04T09:59:03.082-08:00Fun and Busy Week! This past week was very busy, but fun-filled! On Sunday, we finally made it to the fair after everyone recovered from being sick. We had a great time hanging out with Shelley and JJ, riding rides, and eating lots of yummy food! Sunday night we went to a Reformation Celebration with our friends Dave and Beth. The party was on a farm so when Logan saw the animals, he ran over and starting making all of their sounds at each animal as soon as he saw them. We just missed the horse rides, but Logan did get to sit on top of one of the friendly horses. Monday we went to a Halloween party at Red Hat where Logan seemed to be right at home running around where Daddy works! Tuesday was spent catching up on errands, then Wednesday we made it back to Storytime at the library where we made some new friends! Logan gets so excited about going to the library. He walks in and says "book, book!" He's actually said "storytime" before too! One of his favorite things to do is read books. He has a great attention span, sitting and reading several books at a time. He showed off for our friend Beth the other day by getting out his baby word book and naming tons of pictures, then pointing to the ones we asked him about along with all of his body parts (he knows hair, head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, teeth, fingers, hands, arms, elbows, belly, belly button, legs, toes, feet)! He doesn't always "perform" when you ask, but then sometimes he surprises you and counts to three or sings his ABCs to E! Beth asked him to go get her keys for her in the other room, and he went and brought them to her. He is following directions really well now, but Logan is always a ham for Beth!

Back to our week though, Thursday is music day where Logan loves to dance, then Friday we went to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences with Logan's friends Grace and Natalie (unfortunately we forgot to take pictures, but I'm sure we'll go back!). Logan loved all of the huge globe exhibits...he kept exclaiming "ball, ball!" He also loved the butterfly conservatory where the tropical butterflies fly all around you. Then Friday night for Halloween we went over to the Scotts' house to go on a "hay ride" (hay on a trailer pulled behind the 4 wheeler!) and trick or treat. What a blast! When I told Logan we were going on a hay ride he repeated hay, but it sounded more like he thought I was saying "hey". He repeats words constantly now, and builds his vocabulary more and more every day! Then Saturday we went to Cary Band Day which was a parade of bands through downtown Cary. Logan LOVED it! We are definitely going to have to put him in a music class soon! That will probably be one of his Christmas presents. He asks to play music at home every day (he usually dances with Mommy around the house!). You'll have to check out the video of him dancing.

A couple of weeks ago we had a chance to see lots of good friends that we hadn't seen in a while! We packed in the fun starting in Greenville getting pictures taken (if you want to see those you can go to capturedmomentsbykaren.lifepics.com and enter event code radez), then catching a pampered chef party at the Johnston's, then coming back to Apex for my "little sister's" wedding. It was so much fun to see Logan and Sadie playing together again, especially since the week before we went Logan said "Sadie" for the first time! They had a blast staying up way past their nap times! Logan has been talking so much lately that I actually made a list of all the words I could think of that he says on a regular basis and there are over 50!! He also readily repeats words too! Then off to Chris and Danielle's wedding where we had a photo shoot with the Delzers. I'm sure Logan and Miles will be playing together soon! Logan went out with the bachelors to catch the garter, but he must have realized what was happening right before it was thrown because he ran away just in time!

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-6401926642746638842008-08-25T11:53:00.001-07:002008-08-25T12:39:40.809-07:00Settling InI'm not quite sure where to begin, but I'll do my best. We have been super busy over the last 2 months. We are settling into our new home in Apex, NC. Thankfully, I still feel that this has been a good change for our family. I think that the transition has been as smooth as it could possibly have been. God is so gracious! We have begun the process of finding a new church family, and are quite excited about the new family we have started to get to know. Radez and I do tremendously miss our family from Greenville though.

Well, Logan is now one!! In the process of posting pictures, I figured more people look at Facebook than our blog, so that's where the 1st birthday pics went first. I've just recently been reminded of my desire to continue blogging. It seems strange how God uses people and events in our lives to remind us how important friendships, and keeping in touch with other people are. Logan's first birthday was just as exciting as I had hoped for. I documented on camera almost everything he did throughout the day! It was so much fun to watch his excitement even though he didn't realize what was going on. We'll definitely have to work on the cake eating for #2. Both parties he had, he dug right in with his hands but hardly ate any cake. Even after trying to force him to eat a little, he seemed not to like it. I guess that could be a good thing! Playing in it was definitely more fun than eating it!

I think in the slide show posted below are pictures from my brother's wedding and our vacation to Cape May, NJ with family. Brian and Wendy's wedding was beautiful, and I'm so glad to have a wonderful new sister-in-law. We've really enjoyed spending time with them since they've come home, and are looking forward to many more memorable times with them since they'll be staying in America!!

Our time in NJ was amazing! We drove through the night right after Brian and Wendy's wedding so Logan could sleep through the entire trip...mostly. We had a great time sitting out on the porch and on the beach relaxing and hanging out with family. I think we had ice cream 4 nights in a row, and Radez and Molly had creamed chip beef 3 days in a row (kind of like biscuits and gravy...not my fav)! Good thing we go for walks every morning! Logan LOVED the beach! An unending sand box can entertain him for hours! One of the cutest things he did was try to chase the birds down the beach! He kicked his crawl into high gear, and followed a couple of birds as long as they would let him! The water was unusually cold even for NJ, so he wasn't thrilled about the ocean until it finally warmed up...the last day we were there. Thank goodness for video cameras! We were able to capture his excitement.

Other minor exciting things we've been doing around town are going to the library for story time, going to Bruegger's Bagel Shop for music time, and we recently got a membership to Marbles Kids' Museum in Raleigh. Logan and I love getting out during the day. It's been a great way to meet new people, and I think the social interaction has been wonderful for Logan!

Click on the picture to see more. It's a little long. I'm still trying to figure out how to select a few without selecting all.

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-86493803397810686572008-06-15T11:25:00.000-07:002008-06-15T11:41:55.678-07:00First Steps...Logan took his first three consecutive steps Friday night! He wanted to get from one chair to another on the back porch of his Grampa Radez's house. We've noticed his balance greatly improving after walking in the baby pool so much recently. He is able to take several steps independently in water up to his chest. He usually progresses gradually in major milestones, so in the next couple of weeks we expect he'll be walking around everywhere! I'll post pictures when we get home (we're in Raleigh), and video whenever we can capture him in the moment!

We also took our first steps to moving into a house in Apex, NC. We signed a contract yesterday on a house that we are hoping to buy in a couple of weeks! Time is flying by! God is so faithful to provide all that we need for life and godliness! We are so thankful that although plans did not come together in our timing, His timing is much better. He used this circumstance to grow and teach us in several areas. Patience was a big one! Due to the last minute timing, we were also able to get a better deal on this house! I'll post pictures soon...or you can view it on Radez's blog.Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-61960293801438190722008-06-12T12:30:00.000-07:002008-06-12T12:41:53.092-07:00Summer Fun!Logan has had a busy week playing with friends! We've been trying to make the most of our time left in Greenville by spending time with friends. Logan had a blast playing in the sand with Sadie. Sadie just learned to share, and had a busy couple of days trying to teach Logan how. He tried to imitate her sharing by holding a toy out to her. But when Sadie tried to take the toy, Logan did not want to let go. That didn't stop Sadie, though!! She can pull pretty hard! Logan also had fun playing at Barnes and Noble and at the pool with Bryce and Molly! He's so excited that Bryce is starting to like the water as much as he does! And today, he had fun playing with Mallory Kate and Connor. Mallory Kate was pretty upset that he wasn't staying so she could babysit him! They had fun playing anyway.

We've been trying to adjust Logan's nap schedule, so he's been quite tired in the mornings. I thought he would at least wake up for lunch when we got home this morning! I was wrong...I did wake him up to feed him.

Click on the picture to view the slideshow! By the way, Logan did not actually drink the beer!

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-70894175662362896562008-06-08T18:30:00.000-07:002008-06-09T07:34:04.765-07:00We're back...for now!
It feels good to be home! I'm not sure how long it's been since we've spent an entire week in our house, but hopefully this week we'll be here all week! We have been super busy trying to find a house in Apex. We are under contract on our house, but there are still details to be worked out before we can make an offer on the house we like there. We should be able to make an offer in the next few days though. We are excited about the upcoming move, but we are starting to realize how short of a time we have left with our friends here in Greenville that we will miss so much!

Our new favorite activity is going to the pool together!! Logan absolutely loves the water! He has no fear. He loves to walk around in the baby pool, play with other children (he tries to "talk" to all the kids), and jump up and down in the water. When we pull him around on his tummy, sometimes he kicks his legs and paddles with his arms (check out the video!). He even tried to blow bubbles in the water after watching us blow bubbles today! Logan had a great time swimming at the pool in Granny and Grandpa Ellis' neighborhood when we spent the night with them this week!!

Logan has been crawling now for a couple of weeks! I've been trying to capture a good crawl on video, but of course he doesn't crawl long distances when I'm video taping him. I expected him to be into everything, but he's learning his boundaries well for the most part (especially at home). He responds fairly well when told he's not allowed to do something... most of the time.

Logan is beginning to become more snugly!! We love it!! He's starting to give hugs and cuddle longer. He even went around his room one day hugging his stuffed animals! It was the cutest thing ever! When I was giving him a hug and rubbing his back before bedtime, he started rubbing my back, too! The funny thing is that my mom loves to tell the story of when I used to pat her back when she patted mine too. We hope we can continue to teach him to be loving and kind, and that he would understand what that means.

Click on the picture to see the slide show!Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-86421118566051651732008-05-21T05:59:00.000-07:002008-05-22T18:58:12.517-07:00The verdict is...It has been two weeks since I started the poll to see when people thought Logan would start crawling. Only one person thought that Logan would crawl in two weeks. I have to admit that that person would be me! I had faith in my child even though no one else did! Friday night Logan took a couple of "crawls" and then stopped. I debated on whether or not to count that. He must have known his time was running short because yesterday morning he crawled right over to the computer!! Granted it was only about three or four feet, but that has to count! He definitely is able to crawl. The key is finding things that are worth crawling for. The computer is off limits for him so of course he wants it the most! Isn't that how it always goes? It reminds me of Romans 7...even though we died to the law through Christ that we might belong to him, the law is not sin. The law showed what sin was so that sin could be recognized as sin. In setting rules and boundaries for Logan, we hope to show him that he is a slave to sin without Christ. We hope one day God would change his heart so that he desires to turn away from sin and to Christ.

A few days ago I posted that Logan was getting better from his cold...not so much! Monday night he woke us up approximately every half hour or so since we could hear him coughing through the monitor. We took him to the doctor Tuesday and found out he has an ear infection (possibly both ears). He's now on antibiotics, and doing much better!! We're still trying to recover from exhaustion and the beginning stages of colds ourselves. Thankfully we have a long weekend to rest and recuperate!

We took Logan to the strawberry patch a couple weeks ago, and wanted to post a few of those pics here. This was when he first started getting sick, so there aren't many smiles. There are still some pretty cute pictures of him though. We'll have to go back again soon! And yes, the strawberry stains came right out of his white shirt!!

BubbleShare: Share photos - Powered by BubbleShare
Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-89113103753137108802008-05-18T19:23:00.001-07:002008-05-18T19:28:54.946-07:00Bath TimeI know some have you may have already viewed these on the Johnstons' blog, but they are too cute not to post! We got to eat some of the Hammell's famous beer-battered chicken Friday night. Logan had a fun time playing in the sand with Bryce, and laughing and blowing kisses at Molly! Logan actually has a reputation for blowing kisses at Molly. Molly (2 yrs.old) walks around the house saying, "Logan says 'mwa'. Logan says 'mwa'." We'll see where that leads! The pool opened up on Saturday, and even though it was too cold to get in, we splashed around a little and ate dinner there. Logan LOVED kicking his feet in the water and watching the other children play! We are very much looking forward to spending lots of time at the pool this summer! We also went out to eat with friends after church Sunday, and then to the park Sunday afternoon. Logan had a great time playing "Twinkle, Twinkle" on the chimes with Daddy at the park. There are tons of fun things to play with there! We also cracked ourselves up playing at home Sunday night (as you can see in the video)! Logan loves the letter "E"! He can already pick it out of the puzzle. What a brilliant child!

We are so excited that Logan's cold is almost gone!!! Last night was the first night he didn't wake up in the middle of the night in a week! He let us sleep in until 6:45 am! I still woke up at 5:20 out of habit... forget sleeping in after having Logan!

BubbleShare: Share photos - Find great Clip Art Images.

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-22857606971800247272008-05-14T15:20:00.000-07:002008-05-14T15:25:12.898-07:00Mystery SolvedAfter the choking incident, Logan took a nice long nap. When he woke up he kept coughing, and it sounded like something may have still been stuck in his throat. After a long hacking session, I saw something brown coming out of his mouth. It was a leaf! He must have found this small piece of a leaf on the floor, and put it in his mouth. He really will put ANYTHING in his mouth!Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-66379285889507797462008-05-14T11:54:00.000-07:002008-05-14T15:35:52.677-07:00Logan's Alive!!This morning we went to the park and had a great time playing with Lisa and Caden Ellis!! Logan and Caden are great buddies! They love to swing and play on the alligator together. Logan loves to play in the sand, and can't wait for Caden to be old enough to play in it with him! When we got home, I started tickling Logan on the floor and with his mouth wide open smiling I could see some sort of discoloration on the roof of his mouth. My first thought was that his mouth had been burned somehow, but we don't give him hot foods. I felt around a little, and it did feel a little rough but nothing moved. By this time my curiosity was piqued! I went looking for a flashlight. When I couldn't find one, I called Radez to see if he knew where one was since part of our house is packed up to help sell the house. As I was on the phone with him (thankfully) Logan started choking. Immediately, I noticed that there was no longer any discoloration on the roof of his mouth. Whatever that had been was now blocking his airway. I automatically thrust my finger down the back of his mouth and throat trying to dislodge whatever was being held captive there. When that didn't seem to be helping, I started hitting his back. Really, I have no idea if that actually helped or not but after a couple times I heard a beautiful scream coming out! I was a little shaken up afterwards. After taking some time to think through it though, I realized that this was the third time in Logan's short 9 months that he has stopped breathing (twice from choking and once from a breath holding spell which was most likely also choking just from reflux). It was tempting to wonder what I have been doing wrong here, but thankfully I know that God is in control of Logan's life. He purposefully planned these situations and will use them for His glory. He has definitely shown me through these times to not take Logan's life or life in general for granted! It is only by His grace that we have life! I continually pray that God will protect Logan's life and one day allow him to see that he is sinful (even from birth) and in need of a Savior. If you think about it, please pray for him too!!

Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5317841369191437276.post-85394675764597674612008-05-14T06:09:00.001-07:002008-05-14T06:14:56.987-07:00Determined!!I have some VERY cute pictures of fun things we've been doing that I CANNOT figure out how to post as a slide show in the center of my blog!! When I add the slideshow element, it comes up on the side of my blog too narrow to actually view the pictures. I know it can be done because I've seen it before! I'm using flickr to upload my pics. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open! I know mac has a web program that easily converts pics over to a blog, but I'd rather not pay for it. Does anyone know of a more mac friendly blog?? Radez Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08331548190347655161noreply@blogger.com2
